Best PracticesHospitals and health care facilities in general are subject to a multitude of hazards and conditions not found in other industries, including biological, airborne and radioactive materials.
The Albert M. Higley Co. continually invests in the
professional development of its Healthcare Center of Excellence to develop broad subject matter expertise.
Standard of DutyOur project managers understand and comply with general OSHA Standards and NIOSH Alerts, JCAHO, ICRA, and ILSM requirements. Most of its members are ASHE and LEED® Accredited. Every Albert M. Higley Co. employee completes the 10-hour OSHA safety course. All field personnel complete the OSHA 30-hour safety course.
Environmental Sensitivity
Our Healthcare Center of Excellence professionals are experienced in creating temporary installations of non-combustible materials to assure patient, provider and staff safety, comfort, and environmental control during construction projects. In addition to maintaining negative pressure within work areas, we use HEPA filters, walk-off mats, and ante rooms to control dust, infectious contaminants, and fumes. We inspect fire protection and alarm systems regularly during construction, and conduct periodic fire drills. We keep all construction vehicles, equipment, trailers and machinery clear of fire lanes and hydrants. We keep the jobsite clean and organized.
Context SensitivityOur Project Managers and Superintendents are acutely aware of the healthcare environment and they respect it. We communicate daily with healthcare providers to keep them informed of the day's planned activities. We construct in hospitals on a
"just-in-time" basis with the ability stop work on a moment's notice to meet a healthcare priority or condition. We inspect and instruct our field personnel several times each day. We keep work areas free of all obstructions. We exercise strict discipline on the job site. We require hardhats and visible identification badges for all on-site personnel. We prohibit the use of cellular telephones and smoking by our staff and trade contractors in or adjacent to hospital facilities.
