Reporting directly to the Vice President of Safety and Quality Assurance, the Senior Safety Manager coordinates safety and health matters on several commercial construction projects to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as The Albert M. Higley Co.’s corporate policies. Implement and manage policies regarding safety, health, incident prevention, first aid, and fire protection programs for commercial construction projects.  This position is located in Cleveland, OH with no opportunity for remote work or working from home.  Applicants will need to submit to background checks and pass a substance abuse test prior to being made a job offer.

  • Holds a four-year college degree in Safety Management or equivalent
  • Has at least three years of commercial construction safety management experience
  • Has OSHA 30 certification for construction within the past 5 years
  • Has OSHA 500 certification or a commitment to securing the training within one year of hire
  • Holds Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification as accredited by the BCSP, or an equivalent commensurate amount of experience as a safety professional
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of federal, state, and local construction safety regulations
  • Able to recognize hazardous situations and behaviors and implement corrective measures
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Has strong computer skills with detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office programs with proficiency in Excel
  • Ability to manage electronic programs and continually update safety inspection software, including iAuditor
  • Possesses strong team leadership capabilities
  • Can demonstrate strong problem-solving skills
  • Has effective presentation skills
  • Possesses efficient time management skills
  • Has the capability of handling multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Is able to pass an 11-panel substance abuse test pre-employment, annually, and randomly


  • Identifying and mitigating unsafe working conditions and unsafe employee activities through safety management and supervisory personnel for corrective action
  • Assisting with the supervision and administration of safety, health, and first aid activities
  • Supervising subcontractor safety and health compliance on the job site
  • Updating job site-specific safety programs and employee safety orientation training
  • Conducting weekly safety audits based on each projects risk assessment
  • Conducting air sampling for various activities such as confined space, carbon monoxide, and silica producing activities
  • Managing Silica Exposure Assessment database
  • Documenting incidents, safety violations, and unsafe conditions
  • Completing incident investigations or assisting field leaders in their investigations
  • Embracing and upholding the company’s values of integrity, respect, people, commitment, excellence, and ethics
  • Hosting pre-work meetings with subcontractors prior to high-risk activities
  • Conducting quarterly safety training for foremen and superintendent field personnel
  • Evaluating Site Specific Safety Plans (3SPs) that are developed by subcontractors
  • Maintaining continuing education requirements for OSHA 500 and ASP/CSP
  • Leading subcontractors to grow the safety culture in their companies through knowledge of regulations and code as well as sharing best practices and lessons learned
  • Managing Safety Intervention Grant Program
  • Involvement in American Society of Safety Professionals, Construction Safety Council, Safety Forum, Steering Committee and Associated General Contractors.
  • Generates and maintains OSHA 300 and OSHA 300A logs
  • Processes, tracks, and updates worker’s compensation claims and all associated paperwork
